CAUCUSES-MACHIAVELLI OR THE TOOTH FAIRY?

It will be interesting to see who actually shows up to the caucuses/primaries and their outcomes. Each party in each state set its’ own rules regarding who can participate in their caucus. Basically, all party caucuses and primaries require that a participant attending the caucus/primary must be a registered voter in that party. So the 40% of eligible voters who are classified as independents (no party affiliation) cannot participate in the presidential candidate selection process unless they choose to register in one of the political parties and attend their caucus or vote in their primary. Now if one is a disciple of Machiavelli, an independent might want to register in the party they would like to see fail in the general election and during the caucus/primary process champion, support and vote for the weakest candidates in that party.
The opportunity cost an independent pays for this Machivellian play is nil, nada, nothing…because as an independent one wouldn’t have had any caucus or primary opportunity in first place. An independent would only be able to vote in the November general election.
Will the caucuses/primaries be attended by Machiavelli or the tooth fairy? That is the question!
Remember politics is a blood sport and one must know how the game is played, not necessarily the rules of the game.
